   This lamp has to be used with a Dynatrap mosquito trap. It is not a mosquito repellent, as denoted in the dynatrapoutlet.com product description. It attracts mosquitoes and kills them in the trap. This is the reason you should set it up 20-30 feet from the area you want to protect, so that it draws mosquitos away from your living areas. Effectiveness is hard to really quantify due to a couple of factors. It does collect a lot of mosquitoes, as well as many other insects, such as moths, flying ants, small wasps, etc. So when you empty the trap, you may have difficulty seeing a the mosquitoes due to the fact that they are much smaller than the other insects trapped. If you kind of sift through the remains, you can see the mosquitoes as well. The amount that are killed relative to the population in the area is unknown. Making a comparison based on how often you are bitten is hard, because it depends upon the amount of time you spend outside and other things that affect the mosquito population, such as rainfall (standing water), presence of predators that feed on them, etc. Our general observation is that you can and will be bitten if you stay outside for very long at dusk or after dark, but that the frequency of bites is less. Hope this helps. We think that we have enough evidence of effectiveness to keep buying the bulbs and using the trap.

   This bulb burned out in less than three weeks. The last bulb I bought from the same company lasted a year. Their resolution for me is to send this burned out bulb back to them to get a refund and then re-purchase, which I am not going to do, it is not worth my time. I will not be buying from this seller again ever

    Bulb burnt out 10 days after being installed…so I got roughly 1/10 the expected life out of it. Terrible waste of money. Didn’t even last long enough for the bug trap to need to be emptied once.

    This is the standard light bulb for my dynatrap mosquito trapper for 1/2 acre. After using dynatrap for many years, it is not easy to get bites when cleaning my pool in the backyard. This year, I found the light bulb was broken, so I got this replacement after buying the last one about two years ago. One interesting change is that not much insects are trapped this year when compared to the past years. Not sure if my backyard is void of bugs or the old bulb were not functioning properly. Will update the review at the end of this year.

    Despite the availability of less expensve, aftermarket replacement bulbs, I’ve stuck with the DynaTrap brand because they work.

    We live in a small, heavily-wooded community in the middle of a wildlife refuge and along protected wetlands. We get bugs! This year, the no-see-ums were brutal, I’m assuming because of all the spring rains we had. Almost anywhere you go in our neighborhood you’re going to get bit…except on my porch. The reduction in biting flies is very noticeable.

    To me, it’s worth an extra buck or two to have this level of comfort and if you spread the cost difference out over the summer “buggy months” you’re only talking pennies a day difference between the DynatTrap OEM bulb and a generic aftermarket bulb.

    I’m sitting comfortably on my porch typing his and I can actually see my neighbor, a few houses down the road, swatting at the bugs.

    We have had our dynatrap for a couple years and love it. The trap itself works great. Our first bulb that came with it finally burnt out and we bought this replacement bulb less than a month ago and it’s already burnt out again. This bulb is too expensive to replace every month.
